Introduction: Unlocking Premium Omnichannel Scale
As the exclusive distribution license holder for the market-leading Micro Scooters brand across the UK and Ireland, Micro Scooters UK has scaled a premier operation into a household name. From pioneering premium children’s playground mobility to engineering high-end commuting ranges for adults, operating a high-growth distributor requires immense focus on commercial execution and brand strategy.
However, rapid growth across direct-to-consumer (DTC) storefronts and prominent retail marketplaces uncovered a critical operational hurdle. As new channels were added, the business required a more scalable integration layer between its ERP and external platforms.
To unburden their staff and unlock exponential growth, Micro Scooters UK partnered with the digital implementation experts at Cogent2, strategic ecommerce consultancy Vervaunt, front-end delivery specialists Northern Artillery, and the SaaS integration specialists at Patchworks. The objective was clear: offload day-to-day technical maintenance, stabilise high-volume sales streams, and build a highly agile data infrastructure.
The Challenge: Speed and Ease of Multi-Channel Integration
Prior to re-architecting their ecosystem, Micro Scooters UK operated on a fragmented mid-tier software layer that acted as a barrier to rapid scaling. The business faced three core integration challenges:
- The Internal Tech Responsibility Burden: Managing custom, bespoke code required constant internal engineering oversight. Leadership wanted to completely eliminate this tech burden so resources could refocus entirely on brand expansion and commercial strategy.
- Fragile Marketplace Connections & High Vendor Fees: The brand’s connection to volume channels like Amazon relied on unstable, third-party integrations. These setups locked the brand into high, unpredictable monthly fees and offered poor data visibility when synchronisation errors occurred.
- Connecting to the Core Backend: While front-end commerce required rapid agility, deploying new marketplace strategies meant building custom endpoints. The brand needed a way to seamlessly feed multi-channel data into their long-term core system, Khaos ERP, without causing operational disruption or requiring heavy development timelines.
“Patchworks has given us a much more robust integration layer between Shopify, Amazon, Argos and Khaos. It has reduced the amount of manual intervention required from our team, improved visibility when issues arise, and provided confidence that our integrations can scale alongside the business. Combined with our wider technology partners, it’s helped create a much more resilient ecommerce platform”

The Solution: Re-Architecting for Multi-Channel Agility
Delivered as a joined-up partner project, the transformation modernised the surrounding integration architecture to natively support Khaos Control.
1. Seamless Shopify Modernisation
Northern Artillery led the front-end migration, successfully moving the brand’s primary consumer-facing engine from a Magento setup over to a modern Shopify architecture. This shift also seamlessly unlocked native integration with emerging social channels like TikTok Shop.
2. Native Amazon & ERP Automation
Patchworks guided the brand through registering as a self-managed application on Amazon. Cogent2 and Patchworks then engineered direct automated connectors linking both Shopify and Amazon straight into the Khaos ERP backend. This architecture successfully automated:
- Continuous order intake and status updates.
- Real-time stock synchronisation and warehouse inventory alignment.
- Diverse fulfillment options including Amazon FBA, Seller Fulfilled Prime, and Amazon Marketplace.
- Advanced trading capabilities, such as selling curated product bundles directly through Amazon.
3. Marketplace Scaling via Argos Virtual Stock
Leveraging the flexibility of the newly deployed Patchworks iPaaS tier, Cogent2 smoothly integrated an Argos Virtual Stock arrangement. This allows Micro Scooters UK to sell directly through Argos while seamlessly fulfilling orders from their own warehouse using their 3PL partner.
4. The Extended Tech Team Backstop
Rather than requiring internal IT resources to monitor data flows, Micro Scooters UK utilised a structured Patchworks support contract. Under this model, Patchworks functions as an extended technical team, taking full responsibility for infrastructure maintenance, proactive health monitoring, and handling new change requests.
The Results: Peak Performance Proven
By centralising their multi-channel data operations into a single, managed iPaaS layer, Micro Scooters UK removed technical friction and established a highly reliable foundation.
| Key Metric | Before Patchworks | After Patchworks & Shopify |
| Integration Fees | High, unpredictable monthly vendor costs. | Saved tens of thousands of pounds annually via a predictable subscription model. |
| Peak Performance | System strain and data visibility bottlenecks. | 100% System Uptime sustained across intense Black Friday traffic surges. |
| Data Visibility | “Weird and complex” data pipelines with limited triage capability. | Clean, automated routes with absolute clarity across Shopify, Amazon, and ERP data. |
| Operational Effort | Intensive manual checking and spreadsheet work. | Automated workflows eliminating manual overhead for internal staff. |
“The trust has grown. The constraints that were there before have now gone away. Now, they’re looking to explore more possibilities with their tech stack. That’s only achieved by knowing that they can rely on their infrastructure.”

Strategic Takeaways
- Supercharge Your Core Infrastructure with Agile Integration: You don’t need to change your core backend to unlock modern commercial capabilities. Use a flexible iPaaS integration layer like Patchworks to allow your long-term ERP system to effortlessly communicate with fast-moving, consumer-facing endpoints.
- Build a Connected Ecosystem: Modern brands maintain agility by keeping their trusted ERP as the central “source of truth” for finance and stock, while using a managed integration tier to connect best-of-breed cloud and marketplace systems seamlessly.
- Delegate Technical Responsibility to Scale Commercial Output: True growth happens when your internal team stops managing custom software code and starts driving brand expansion. Partnering with a managed integration platform offloads day-to-day data maintenance entirely to dedicated experts.
